In Memoriam... Dick Lareau

It is with great sadness that we remember the legacy of influential San Diego Architect Richard Lareau.

His decades-long service on the Point Loma Association and Peninsula Bank boards and in various neighborhood causes earned him the unofficial title, “Mr. Point Loma.” He was a prodigious fund-raiser for Balboa Park institutions.

But it’s his mid-century modern architectural work that serves as a permanent legacy — from wood-and-glass custom homes and circular-shaped public buildings, like churches and the Mission Bay Visitors Center, to an assortment of public libraries, school buildings and Navy facilities.

A celebration of life is scheduled from 4 to 7 p.m. May 17 at the Air & Space Museum in Balboa Park. The family suggests donations in his memory to the Barnes Tennis Center or the museum.
