To expand our team in the San Diego, CA office, we are actively seeking a design-focused Job Captain. This role collaborates closely with the internal and extended project team to create design and construction documents in Revit. The Job Captain plays a key role in developing and coordinating architectural drawings while contributing to both the design and technical aspects of our community-focused projects.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the Design Principal during design critiques and pin-ups.

  • Create photorealistic renderings and virtual reality walkthroughs using Revit and Enscape.

  • Prepare Revit drawings that adhere to office standards and project requirements.

  • Assist project teams and managers in developing construction documents for permitting, bidding, and construction.

  • Participate in multiple concurrent projects through design development and construction documentation phases.

  • Develop and present design ideas and technical information, including design presentations, client meetings, detailing, and hand sketching.

  • Contribute to design development through sketches, 3D models, diagrams, massing studies, and other visual formats.

  • Utilize BIM technologies to develop 3D models of buildings and components.

  • Conduct site analysis and research on concepts, precedents, benchmarks, and typologies.

  • Provide input on design and construction schedules, communicating technical implications of design decisions.

  • Develop and coordinate drawings and specifications, including program requirements, code compliance, scheduling, product research, and building systems.

  • Organize and coordinate with architectural and engineering teams to ensure timely, efficient project execution.

  • Attend project team and client meetings as required.

  • Participate in value engineering and basic cost estimation.

  • Support other tasks necessary for the successful completion of projects.

Qualifications and Candidate Requirements

Required:

  • Proficiency in Revit and Microsoft Office.

  • Strong communication and collaboration skills to effectively interact with consultants, contractors, vendors, clients, and team members.

  • Ability to perform space planning, block planning, and adjacency coordination based on building programs.

  • Experience in all phases of project development, from schematic design through contract administration.

  • Basic knowledge of building construction systems, methods, materials, and industry standards.

  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced design environment with multiple concurrent projects.

Preferred:

  • Proficiency in Enscape or similar software for renderings and VR walkthroughs.

  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite, Bluebeam Studio, Smartsheet, and Revizto.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Architecture or a related field (preferred).

  • Minimum of three years of experience using Revit, with a comprehensive understanding of its capabilities.

Work Environment
This role is primarily office-based, requiring extended periods of computer work. Fieldwork may occasionally be required, with potential exposure to inclement weather.
