World Design Capital San Diego/ Tijuana 2024

Request for Statement of Qualifications for Cross-Border Art and Design Project

WHO | AIA San Diego and World Design Capital San Diego Tijuana 2024 invite designers, artists, architects, and designer-led creative teams consisting of practitioners from both San Diego and Tijuana to submit a Statement of Qualifications (SOQ). The lead applicant must be based in the City of San Diego; however, the remainder of the team can be based in Tijuana (Baja California, Mexico) and elsewhere in San Diego County.

WHAT | Built structures/installations/placemaking to serve as a physical hallmark for the WDC 2024 Program. A creative team will be selected to design and participate in the fabrication or building of a new project to signify San Diego and Tijuana's designation as the first cross-border World Design Capital in 2024. The Project could be a stand-alone structure, shelter, pavilion, totem, or artifact that shall be designed and constructed within the stated budget.

Aspects of the Project could invoke the end-user to become an integral part of the piece. A key element of this Project will be for the Team to create an innovative and fresh experience for the end-user that represents our region. Components of the Project should be practical, site-specific, and provoke a sense of interest and wonder.

To express your interest in submitting a Statement of Qualifications (SOQ) for consideration in the project, complete the Interest Form so that we can contact you with any updates.
