MillerKnoll Scholars Program for Emerging Professionals in Healthcare
MillerKnoll will sponsor emerging professionals seeking licensure to attend the 2023 Healthcare Design Expo and Conference (HCD), the fall conference of the Center for Health Design (CHD)/AIA Academy of Architecture for Health (AAH). The Scholars Program has been made available through Herman Miller, and now MillerKnoll, for nearly 25 years.
The conference will be held at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center in New Orleans, LA on November 4-7, 2023. Each selected recipient will receive a full conference pass and a stipend to offset travel, hotel room, and meal costs.
This scholarship program is part of MillerKnoll’s continuing commitment to excellence in health care architecture and support of recent graduates and newly licensed architects.
Eligibility
• Candidates must have a minimum of one year, maximum six years' work experience as design professionals as of October 1, 2023. One year of experience must be under the supervision of an architect working on health care projects or one year of work experience in a health care facility in the US and/or International.
• Candidates must have the education or experience that will ensure eligibility for licensing in the U.S. within three years. Newly licensed architects who meet the one to six years’ work experience above may also apply.
• Eligibility timeframe is based on date of graduation.
• Past Herman Miller (now MillerKnoll) Scholars, AAH SLS NextGen Scholars, or Fellowship recipients are not eligible.
Application Requirements
Scholarship candidates should electronically submit the following materials to aah@aia.org to be received by the AIA by September 21, 2023:
1. Cover Page: provide contact information with your name, work address, telephone, fax, and work e-mail address. As a back-up, please also provide your home address, phone number, and personal e-mail address.
2. Essay: 300-to-400-word description of your interest and experience in healthcare architecture. Include any previous experience in related student or professional organizations, and your professional and educational background, e.g., university degree in architecture, past awards, etc. The essay should also state why attending the conference is important to you, your career and how you plan on using what is learned at the conference in the future.
3. One-page resume: your resume should verify that you have one to six years of work experience as an intern architect, with one year of experience under the supervision of an
architect working on health care projects or one year of work experience in a health care facility. It should also verify your eligibility for licensing in the U.S. within three years.
4. Recommendation: one letter from a principal in your firm, recommending you, the candidate, for the scholarship and indicating the firm’s support of your participation in the conference.
5. Headshot: JPEG, resolution 300 DPI
Recognition
Selected recipients agree to:
• Attend and be recognized during HCD at the AAH Academy Update & Reception.
• Give AAH and MillerKnoll permission to publish a headshot and other related MK/AIA Scholar Program images, along with a story feature on the candidate and their work and use your name in connection with the above for marketing, sales, or promotional purposes, including but not limited to social media.
• Attend a private event at HCD sponsored by MillerKnoll, to meet other scholars and MillerKnoll leadership.
