Lifetime Achievement & Young Architect of the Year Awards Ceremony

  • St. Pauls Cathedral 2728 Sixth Avenue San Diego, CA, 92103 United States (map)

Please join us for a special ceremony honoring the contributions of esteemed architectural professionals in our community.

The Awards shine a spotlight on the life’s work of established architectural professionals towards the end of their careers, alongside emerging professionals who are at the beginning of the journey. We call it the bookends, and the evening provides a touching glimpse at each individual’s path, progress, and milestones in their career.

We are pleased to announce the 2023 Robert Mosher Lifetime Achievement Honorees, Jack Alan Carpenter, FAIA and Kotaro Nakamura, AIA. The 2023 Young Architect of the Year is Bryn Young, AIA. The 2023 Legacy Award goes to Richard Welsh, posthumously.

ABOUT THE ROBERT MOSHER LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD

AIA San Diego’s Robert Mosher Lifetime Achievement Award is the highest honor the American Institute of Architects can bestow on its members. This award is granted to a member in recognition for their enduring contribution to the community in areas of design, service, volunteerism, or leadership and his or her significant body of work.  This award is given in recognition of a career of dedicated commitment to the built environment.

ABOUT THE YOUNG ARCHITECT OF THE YEAR AWARD

The Young Architect of the Year Award is given to the individual who has shown exceptional leadership and made significant contributions to the profession in an early stage of their professional career.

ABOUT THE LEGACY AWARD

The Legacy Award honor highlights important contributors in the history of San Diego architecture.  It is a way of giving credit where credit is due and bringing notable figures to light for the benefit of upcoming generations of architects and design professionals.

About the Venue

We are excited to return this year to St. Paul's Cathedral, Great Hall.
Designed by Philip Frohman, a leader of the neo-Gothic style who designed the National Cathedral in Washington, D.C., the Great Hall served as the church until after the Great Recession, with the first service in the new Cathedral in 1951.

We extend a special thank you to Architects Mosher Drew, our member firm, and newschool of architecture&design for generously sponsoring this ceremony.
