UVC & HVAC: Mitigating COVID-19 in OSHPD

Is UV-C the End-All-Be-All?

This presentation + discussion forum will explore lighting and air systems in OSHPD 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 buildings

We will take a deep dive into Coronavirus properties in relation to airborne spread via droplet nuclei. Through this lens, we will assess typical HVAC systems in use in healthcare buildings, UV-C physics and technology for viral mitigation, the danger of UV-C to humans and degradation of materials. Specifically, we will probe into site-specific applications of in-duct and upper-room; the efficacy of systems and challenges; shadowing and exposure time; installation, operational and environmental cost considerations. All told, we will attempt to evaluate whether UV-C is the answer to our COVID-19 woes here in San Diego and elsewhere.

The Goals of the Presentation

Educate participants on UV-C and HVAC in relation to COVID-19 transmission in our healthcare buildings and provide attendees with one primary take-away to help them implement useful measures.
