Big Tent 2020 Collaboration

Kick-Off Zoom Meeting

At this moment in time, we believe there will be great value if we bring representatives from key San Diego organizations together, who have been voices of reflection and change, to discuss and understand each other, and seek open collaboration for the benefit of all San Diego Communities.

In the 1960’s, Dr. Seuss, at a time of similar issues asked the question for San Diego, “Onward to Where?” This became a symbol in the 1980’s of the rapid growth concerns of the region. These challenges and issues have never gone away.  We have continued to have the same conversations year after year without resolution.  Today’s questions are:  what will change in the post-pandemic new normal; and, how do we finally address social injustice?  The issues of housing and neighborhoods and our need to address social and economic equity are again front and center.  In the context of the City of San Diego's proposed Complete Communities Plan, the proposed Parks Master Plan, and the implementation of the Climate Action Plan, they still do not go away.

Through collaboration, we can create common messages and produce stronger advocacy to address the issues.  There are many topics to bring to the forefront and, with each of our organizations, that agenda can be discussed and developed this year under a Big Tent Collaboration.  It can set the tone for all candidates for public office in November.
