Heleo Architecture + Design, Designers of the World Design Capitol Exchange Pavilion

Barbara Leon, AIA and Carlos Hernandez will discuss their work at Heleo Architecture + Design. Recent projects include the World Design Capital 2024 EXCHANGE Pavilion in Balboa Park, Insurgente Brewery in Tijuana, and Sage & Fire, a boutique cannabis retail outlet in Lone Pine, Calif. 

Barbara Leon, AIA is a co-founder and principal of Heleo Architecture + Design, a multidisciplinary design practice in San Diego. As a licensed architect in California and Colorado with over 14 years of professional experience, she leads the studio’s projects in the commercial, retail, and residential markets throughout California, the southwestern U.S. states and Baja California. The firm's goal is to create progressive experiences through the built environment. She currently serves on the board of the San Diego Chapter of the American Institute of Architects (AIA) and is co-director of its Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Justice Committee, which promotes the advancement of underrepresented groups in the architecture field. She is a LEED-accredited professional and a member of both the San Diego Architectural Foundation and the National Organization of Minority Architects.

Carlos Hernandez is a co-founder and managing principal of Heleo. He earned a bachelor of architecture degree from the Southern California Institute of Architecture (SCI-Arc) in Los Angeles. He holds certificates from the USC Ross Minority Program in Real Estate and the Turner School of Construction Management.  Carlos manages and leads Heleo’s projects to ensure their successful outcomes. He has more than 12 years' expertise in commercial, mixed use, multifamily residential, and urban planning. He is a LEED-accredited professional and is a member of the AIA and the San Diego Architectural Foundation.
