Balboa Park/San Diego High School Connections: Making the most of the rebuilding of San Diego's signature high school
With presenter Mike Stepner, former City Architect and chair of the BP/SDHS Connections Working Group
San Diego High School has been located within Balboa Park since 1882, but when the freeway separated the park from downtown in the 1960s, it left the school stranded at the edge of downtown and disconnected physically from the park and it's cultural treasures and recreational attractions. Now that the school has a new 99-year lease on life in the park and is undergoing a major rebuilding, the City Council's commissioned BP/SDHS Connections Working Group has come up with a long list of physical and programmatic opportunities to tie not only the school to the park but both to City College and all three to downtown, surrounding neighborhoods and the region. Mike Stepner will review the recommendations now headed for council consideration.
