1 CE: Architecture on Wheels: Relocating Historic Buildings

Sometimes the only way to save a historic building is to move it. Architect David Marshall of Heritage Architecture & Planning will present numerous case studies of historic buildings that have been moved in San Diego County and one that is pending. Examples will cover Heritage Park in the 1970s to the Candy Factory by Petco Park and the recently moved Top Gun House in Oceanside.

 Attendees will learn the following:

  • The historical approval process and common mitigation measures.

  • The relocation recommendations from the National Park Service.

  • Some of the common moving techniques and challenges.

  • What should the architect look for regarding the selection of the new site?

  • Does moving a building harm its historic value?
