Let’s Talk Building Codes! Overview of Fire and Life Safety for Healthcare facilities in California

Hospitals and related healthcare facilities face unique challenges and hazards resulting from patients’ inability to evacuate on without the need assistance during a fire emergency. To combat this challenge, many healthcare facilities utilize a Defend-in-Place evacuation strategy that requires careful coordination of staff, fire protection, life safety, and other building systems that is known as the “Total Concept” approach. This program will review the challenges in California healthcare facilities and how to implement the fire and life safety requirements to achieve the “Total Concept” approach for a Defend-in-Place evacuation strategy.
