Seaport San Diego: Revitalizing the San Diego Bayfront

Friends of San Diego Architecture presents a virtual lecture series.

Seaport San Diego is a proposal to revitalize a key section of the San Diego Bayfront thoughtfully and boldly for the next century of San Diego visitors and residents. The vision would bolster access, use, and enjoyment of the waterfront for all. The proposed $3.5 billion redevelopment of 42-year-old Seaport Village calls for a major expansion of retail space plus new hotel, office and marina slips, along with public recreation amenities on Embarcadero Marina Park North. Yehudi "Gaf" Gaffen, one of the principals on the 1HWY1 development team, will discuss the latest changes as presented earlier this month to the San Diego Unified Port District board.

Speaker:

Yehudi 'Gaf' Gaffen, Chairman & CEO, Gafcon

Shortly after graduating from the University of Cape Town, South Africa with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Construction Management, Gaf and his wife, Pam Gaffen, moved to San Diego. After building his reputation in the management and construction of real estate development projects, Gaf’s entrepreneurial spirit took hold in 1987, when he and Pam founded Gafcon to fulfill their vision of assisting owners in delivering complex projects supporting vibrant communities.

Today, Gaf lends his 40 plus years of experience and expertise to the programs and projects Gafcon manages — from once in a lifetime projects like Seaport San Diego and Zizhu Hi-Tech Development in Shanghai, China, to work supporting community capital programs for clients such as the City of Santa Monica and the San Diego Unified School District.
