Factory + Design Tour with TAP
Our Technology in Architectural Practice CoMmittee has teamed up with USG Ceiling Plus for a presentation and tour of their Los Angeles based factory. This presentation will provide important detail on how ceiling fabricators produce their shop drawings and fabrication, 3d models, and how this information is used in the factory and the field to achieve complex designs.
Ceiling systems can allow for complex and intricate shapes and forms through digital customization. Sharing model information between design and fabrication can assist in the production of advanced designs. This class will include a presentation on design for fabrication, the shop drawing process and a factory tour of the actual fabrication equipment by USG leaders to bring this understanding to life.
Participants will:
Discuss and identify what information is critical to fabricators when sending over design data
Recognize fabrication limitations that provide useful guidelines to designers when laying out a ceiling system.
Review fabrication techniques and equipment that allow for high tolerances and custom designs
Be able to describe the process from issuance of design drawings and models to installation onsite.
USG will be hosting a happy hour following the tour, so please stay for a drink, or two!
