Meet the Speakers

Sarah Vaccaro

After practicing architecture in the Bay Area for over a decade, Sarah Vaccaro joined OJK and was quickly elevated to Principal, shortly followed by becoming a co-owner. Her career has included a variety of project types from educational buildings to a children’s’ museum and zoo. Sarah strongly believes that architecture has the power and responsibility to improve lives through purposefully designed spaces and by affecting positive social change in the broader community. She made the shift to affordable housing in order to meaningfully pursue architecture that is restorative to those individuals, families and communities most in need of a safe, stable home. Sarah volunteers extensively with programs that support the homeless meeting immediate needs and long-term solutions.

Sarah leads and collaborates with the OJK team and their Non-Profit Housing Developer partners, designing multi-family affordable housing and permanent supportive housing that imparts dignity, builds community, and provides a safe home for vulnerable individuals and families. Sarah is a California licensed architect and LEED-accredited professional with a passion for the design process and creatively collaborating with clients to best serve the end-users.

Kate Conley

Kate Conley is a Principal at OJK Architecture + Planning. She is a licensed architect in California and Washington State. Kate started her career on affordable housing projects in Southern California after graduating Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Architecture and minor in Sustainable Environments from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. She brings strong technical and design expertise gained as an Associate at Pritzker Prize-winning Foster+Partners and from her mentors in architecture and construction.

Her passion for sustainable design led her to become a LEED AP and drew her to the Bay Area, where she has gained well-rounded technical expertise in a broad spectrum of project types. Focusing first on higher education residential projects, she then pursued flagship retail design opportunities in Chicago and Seattle and commercial office developments in the South Bay.

Improving equity and justice in the design and engineering professions is an expanding area of emphasis for Kate, leading her to participate in the AIA Silicon Valley Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Task Force and serve as Events Director for the WIA Committee.
