About Our All-star Panel
As a relentless advocate for architects and the built environment, Nicki Dennis Stephens, Hon. AIA has long promoted good design’s ability to solve complex problems in California and beyond. As the executive director of AIA California, she has set a high bar for other regional, state, and local components and has bolstered AIA’s efforts in tackling the most pressing issues facing the profession.
Since taking the helm of AIA California in 1999, Stephens’ leadership has positioned the chapter as a leader in member service, government advocacy, and public engagement.
Kelly Potter is a Principal at Cavignac & Associates and specializes in designing insurance and risk management programs for Architects, Engineers, CPAs and Lawyers.
Kelly was born into the insurance industry where her family founded a privately owned insurance brokerage in Los Angeles in 1959. She graduated with a Bachelor’s degree from SDSU where she was a member of the Division Two National Championship Water Ski Team.
In 2007, Kelly joined Cavignac and has since earned a number of professional designations including the Certified Insurance Counselors designation, Professional Workers’ Compensation Advisors and Construction Risk & Insurance Specialist designation. She is actively involved with many local industry associations and non-profits and enjoys spending time outside with her husband and two daughters.
Star Hughes-Gorup is a senior vice president and director at Hughes Marino, San Diego’s leading commercial real estate firm that exclusively represents tenants and buyers.
As a key member of Hughes Marino’s brokerage team, Star has created a niche for herself working alongside her father, Jason Hughes, where the two are in active negotiations for over 1,000,000 million square feet of leases at any given time in the premier commercial markets in the county.
A proud member of the millennial generation, Star regularly writes and speaks about her experience as a young, professional woman in a competitive, male-dominated industry. She has appeared in national, regional and local publications as well as on local TV news programs as a millennial voice on a variety of topics including business, technology, and education.
