KidSketch SD

A virtual sketching lesson for kids of all ages!

AIA San Diego and AIA California are teaming up with SDAF and BEEP to bring you KidSketch San Diego, a free virtual sketching lesson.

KidSketchSD will be all virtual this year with sketching tutorials and guidance as participants sketch the County Administration Building and – just in time for Halloween – the haunted Star of India.

Register by October 7th to receive a free kit of drawing supplies (drawing paper, pencil, pen, sketching tips handout). Not signed up in time to get supplies? No worries! Just grab a pencil, pen and paper, and join the webinar.

We want to see your work! Be sure to share your drawings to Instagram using #KidSketchSD and #KidsDraw20

AIA Chapters across California will be participating in this year’s KidSketch (aka Kids Draw Architecture) event.

This program invites children of all ages to meet with architects and learn about the value of sketching, which is still fundamental in the field of architecture. Architects know this. Drawing affects how the brain compartmentalizes and disseminates information. Sketching allows for one to focus and see things previously unnoticed, or to connect how the building sits within its environment.

BEEP stands for Built Environment Education Program. As part of SDAF’s overarching mission, the program strives to inspire San Diego’s youth to discover the value of design in our built environment.

At its core, BEEP partners with architects and other design professionals to introduce K-12 students to the basic concepts that shape buildings, places, and spaces.
