THE 2022 JURY

To provide a fair and equitable review, a jury is recruited from esteemed architect members from non-local metropolitan areas. The recruitment of a non-local jury of highly distinguished architects ensures that the work awarded embodies design excellence to the highest extent.

Esteemed 2022 Jury Chair: Andrew Herdeg, FAIA
Andrew Herdeg, FAIA, is a Principal at renowned Texas firm, Lake|Flato; he currently leads the firm’s Higher Education Studio. His thoughtful designs reflect a commitment to the study of place: climate, natural resources, cultural precedents, and historic building traditions. His projects include the LEED Platinum-certified ASU Health Services Building in Tempe, AZ; the ASU Polytechnic Academic District in Mesa, AZ, honored with an AIA Committee on the Environment (COTE) Top Ten Project Award; and the Knox College Whitcomb Art Center in Galesburg, IL.

Esteemed 2022 Jury Member: Maija Kreishman, AIA
Maija Kreishman, AIA, serves as Principal at the Michael Hsu Office of Architecture. Ms. Kreishman is the first firm team member to be named principal alongside founder Michael Hsu, who formed the firm in Austin in 2005. Kreishman has been integral in the growth of MHOA and has played a key role in the success of their second office in Houston.

Esteemed 2022 Jury Member: Shelby Blessing, AIA
Ms. Blessing serves as Associate/Design Architect at Page/think Architecture in Austin, Texas.

Esteemed 2022 Jury Member: Trinity White, AIA
Trinity White lives and works in East Austin. Owner and Principal of her own firm, her focus is on helping individuals and families through the process of dreaming, designing and finally creating houses and additions that are affordable, sustainable and inspiring.

Esteemed 2022 Jury Member: Ricardo Maga Rojas, Assoc. AIA
Ricardo de Jesús Maga Rojas, Assoc. AIA, NOMA, is a 2021 AIA Associates Award recipient, recognized for his outstanding leadership and creative thinking as an emerging professional. Embracing the role of citizen architect, Rojas is dedicated to his adopted city (Austin) and is a role model for his fellow associates.

THE PEOPLE | LEGENDARY DESIGN PROS

Each year, AIA San Diego’s Design Awards program is attended by 250+ of some of the most talented design professionals in the nation, making this a tremendous opportunity for fraternizing and networking. Although markedly different than our in-person galas, this virtual event offers more opportunities for participation, with attendance not limited by drive time or geography.

Each year, we receive more than 100 submissions across categories). The selection process is rigorous and focused on both function and form, with a significant emphasis on sustainability.
