AIA San Diego is seeking new and returning volunteer leaders to serve on the Board of Directors and on AIA San Diego’s Committees in 2023.

2023 BOARD VACANCIES
Call for Board Member Nominations: October 1, 2023 - November 18, 2023
BOARD: Secretary/Treasurer
Typically reserved for those with previous Board or Committee leadership experience, this Executive Committee position presents a 4-year path to Executive Committee leadership: ’23 Recording Secretary/Treasurer; ’24 Vice President, ’25 President; ’26 Immediate Past President. Serving at this capacity affords the volunteer leader the opportunity to shape the future of AIA San Diego and to get involved with AIA California and AIA National. Chapter presidents serve as board representatives on AIA California and are offered the opportunity to represent AIA San Diego at various national conferences.
BOARD: Young & Emerging Professionals (YEP!) (Director; Co-Director)
The Young & Emerging Professionals Director(s) supports those who have recently completed their academic studies, those on the path to licensure, and those within ten years or less of licensure. The YEP Director(s) also liaises with local academic institutions and students enrolled in architecture programs. YEP Director(s) may form Committee(s) to create programs supporting path to licensure, interdisciplinary networking, exam prep, and more. YEP Directors take an active role in the annual Career Expo (Spring), the Young Architect of the Year (YAYA) program (Fall), and will be encouraged to implement programs which support mentorship.

BOARD: Practice (Director and/or Co-Director)
With significant shifts in working conditions brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic, the impacts of climate change, equity issues in the profession, and major advances in technological tools/resources, our profession must be active and thoughtful in addressing change. This Director and his/her corresponding Committees will support the Chapter in networking with firms of all sizes to identify challenges and opportunities within our daily practitioner lives and to implement programs and resources which address these.

Academy of Architecture for Health (AAH)
AAH provides knowledge which supports the design of healthy environments by creating education and networking opportunities for members of—and those touched by—the healthcare architectural profession.

COTE | Committee on the Environment
The Committee on the Environment (COTE) works to achieve climate action and climate justice through design. COTE seeks to enhance the environmental performance of the built environment by promoting design practices that empower architects to achieve favorable environmental outcomes. Serving on COTE is a leadership opportunity for citizen architects. AIA San Diego’s nascent COTE will develop the blueprints to climate action advocacy in San Diego.

Historic Preservation
AIA San Diego’s Preservation Committee seeks to broaden awareness and appreciation of preservation and historic architects in the profession, to identify and preserve architectural heritage locally, and to educate members regarding current trends and practices.

Regional Design Advisory Council
The Regional Design Advisory Council is a broad group of inter-disciplinary professionals, including but not limited to architects, planners, landscape architects, civic leaders, elected and appointed government officials. The Council strives to promote visionary thinking and serves as an advocacy group evaluating legislative initiatives and public and private investments that affect the design of San Diego’s built environs.

Technology in Architectural Practice
Technology in Architectural Practice (TAP) is a Knowledge Community that serves to educate, illustrate, and illuminate the nearly limitless opportunities presented when connecting technology and architectural practice.

Women in Architecture
Women in Architecture (WIA) is a group dedicated to supporting women and minorities in the architecture and design community. WIA strives to increase awareness of women’s contributions to the built environment. WIA gatherings include happy hours, professional development events, lectures, films, tours, as well mentorship programs.

NEW Young Emerging Professionals (YEP!)
The Young & Emerging Professionals (YEP) reports to the YEP Director(s) and supports emerging professionals at all levels, including students, those on the path to licensure, and those licensed within the past ten or fewer years. The newly formed committee invites all volunteers to join us in creating programming which engages the next generation of architecture and design professionals, supports the path to licensure, offers opportunities for interdisciplinary networking, and provides support for exam success.

Ready to serve on the Board or join a committee, either as a leader or sitting member? Great! What does it entail, you ask? Board members are asked to represent the Chapter in the community, attend a monthly Board meeting, as well as serve as liaisons to their respective committees, if any. Board members will be briefed at our annual board retreat and will be asked to participate in AIA events and programs, as well as in planning for our future. Committee members typically meet once per month and implement events and programs which align their special interests with AIA’s overarching mission and objectives.
