AIA Membership involves a three-tiered membership system, with dues allocated and services provided at the local, state, and national levels. Eligibility: Individuals currently licensed to practice architecture in a US state or territory. (Proof of licensure required for submittal with application.)

AIA Associate Membership

Eligibility: Individuals not licensed to practice architecture, but meeting one (or more) of the following conditions:
* Hold a professional degree in architecture;
* Participate in career responsibilities recognized by licensing authorities as constituting credit toward licensure (interns);
* Work under the supervision of an architect in a professional or technical capacity;
* Serve as faculty member in a university program in architecture;
* A copy of your degree is required with membership application. An official or unofficial transcript can be provided in lieu of a copy of your degree as long as the transcript notes the date of graduation as well as the title of the degree (i.e. architecture).

AIA Emeritus Membership

Eligibility: According to our AIA National Bylaws 2.311 Architect Members.

Any Architect member may apply for Emeritus status who has been in good standing in the Institute for fifteen successive years immediately prior to his or her application, and either (i) has attained the age of 65, or (ii) has achieved architect emeritus status under law in any state of the United States or (iii) is so incapacitated as to be unable to work in the profession.

Would you like to TRANSFER your membership to AIA San Diego? 

Have you just moved to San Diego, and you'd like to transfer your current membership over from another chapter? If you are a member in good standing, for this year, you may transfer your membership at no cost. The following year, you will be required to pay dues at the AIA San Diego rates.

To initiate your transfer, download The Transfer Membership form and submit it to your former chapter for their signature. Transfers usually take 2 months to be fully processed; including updating the addresses for your subscription to Architectural Record (AIA and Associate AIA members.)
